The Polish Photographer Kacper Kowalski

Toxic Beauty – Aerial Photographs by Kacper Kowalski

Kacper Kowalski is a photographer, but not a conventional one. When he presses the shutter release, he uses a so-called gyroplane to hover over the objects and places he wants to photograph. This allows the 37-year-old to take a completely new look at his home country of Poland from an unusual perspective. This turns his photographs into mysterious compositions, for which he has already received numerous international awards. The Basiliscus Film camera team meets Kacper Kowalski in Gdynia, around 30 kilometers from the Polish port city of Gdansk. He will fly with us in his gyroplane to the Kashubia region, one of his favorite motifs.

Kacper Kowalski's aerial photographs are award-winning. Almost every week, the Pole flies off in his mini-helicopter to take pictures of his home country. His images often reflect the interplay between man and nature. He himself calls his pictures »portraits of civilization«. He even won the World Press Photo Award in 2014 for his »Toxic Beauty« series.
