189 Nation leben in Berlin zusammen

Berlin ist nicht nur eine der aufregendsten Metropolen Europas, es ist auch ein Schmelztiegel der Nationen und bekannt für seine Vielfalt: In der Hauptstadt leben Menschen aus 189 Ländern. Mehr als 18 Prozent der Berliner sind Ausländer. Viele von ihnen bringen ein Stück ihrer Heimat und ihrer Kultur mit nach Berlin. Und eines der wichtigsten kulturellen Güter ist, neben der Sprache, das Essen.

Regionale Gerichte haben fast immer einen geschichtlichen Hintergrund und oft eine sehr lange Tradition. Doch wie lässt sich diese in einem fremden Land erhalten und Kultur leben? Viele der Menschen, die aus anderen Teilen der Welt kommen und in Berlin leben, tun dies, in dem sie ein Restaurant eröffnen und die Spezialitäten aus ihren Herkunftsländern servieren. Diese Menschen stellt die Fernsehserie 50 Küchen, eine Heimat vor – mit ihrer ganz persönlichen Geschichte, ihrem Restaurant und dem besten und traditionellsten Gericht aus ihrer Küche.

Prämierte crossmediale Web- und TV-Serie

2016 produzierte Basiliscus Film im Auftrag der Deutschen Welle innerhalb eines Jahres diese 50-teilige TV-Serie für das Lifestylemagazin euromaxx. Wir lernten dadurch die gastronomische Vielfalt Berlins noch viel besser kennen, trafen die besten Köche und Gastronomen der Stadt, schauten ihnen über die Schulter und in ihre Kochtöpfe.

Herausgekommen sind dabei 50 Filme über Menschen, die aus ganz unterschiedlichen Gründen nach Berlin gekommen sind. 50 Filme, die ein gastronomischer Wegweiser durch die Stadt sind und gleichzeitig 50 Rezepte zum Nachkochen vorstellen.

Berlin, many people say, it is the most beautiful city in the world. It is known for its diversity, its open-mindedness and its possibilities. It is not only the most exciting metropolises in Europe, but also a place where many different cultures come together. People from more than 189 nations live in Berlin. And it is quite clear that they all contribute something of their home countries to Berlin. This makes the city a colorful melting pot of cultures.

Some of the people start a new life here, open a restaurant and offer the delicacies of their homeland. Because food has a special meaning for all cultures. Eating unites and brings people together around a table. Eating means sharpening the senses, means enjoyment and memory. One of the most important cultural assets besides language is the cuisine of a country.

In 2016, Basiliscus Film produced on behalf of Deutsche Welle the fifty-part TV series 50 Kitchens, one City. We got an intimate insight into the gastronomic diversity of Berlin, visited the best restaurants in the city, met the most excellent chefs and tasted the most delicious recipes of the world.

The result is 50 films about people who came to Berlin for very different reasons. 50 films, which serve as a gastronomic guide through the city. Each episode provides insights into the culinary world of Berlin today and also presents an appetizing recipe from one of the worlds amazing cuisines, prepared exclusively for euromaxx.
